The Geyer Regal of 1591

Description >> The features of the Geyer regal >> Restoration >> Conclusions about the instrument's history

The Grenzing workshop in Barcelona was entrusted with the restoration of this instrument so that it could not only be returned to its former beauty as an instrument, but we also had to return it in playable condition! This was accomplished with a minimum intervention:

Reconstructed folds of the bellows

Reconstructed folds of the bellows

  • a new set of bellows was made rather than restoring the original ones; this would have been too complicated and, from a restorers point of view, would have entailed the use of unacceptable procedures
  • the instrument was carefully cleaned with dust brushes.
  • the pallet box and the pallets were releathered. This had been done in a previous restoration less than a century ago.
approximately. However, it seems that the instrument was only playable for a very short time after that.

Keyboard, windchest and reeds form a compact unit
